Die British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) hat heute auf einer Pressekonferenz die Nominierungen für die diesjährigen 71. Britischen Filmpreise bekannt gegeben. Wie bei den Golden Globe-Nominierungen führt "The Shape of Water", der Fantasy-Film von Guillermo del Toro, der vorgestern den Golden Globe als "Bester Regisseur" erhalten hat. Zwölf Nominierungen konnte die Fox Searchlight-Produktion auf sich vereinigen.
Dahinter folgen mit jeweils neun Nennungen das britische Drama "Darkest Hour", für das Gary Oldman als "Bester Hauptdarsteller" bei den Globes ausgezeichnet worden ist und der als großer Oscar-Anwärter gilt, und der US-Kriminalfilm "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri", für den Academy Awards-Favoritin Frances McDormand ebenfalls den Golden Globe bekommen hat. Die größte Enttäuschung setzt es für "The Post", das Steven Spielberg-Drama um Pressefreiheit, das bereits trotz sechs Nominierungen bei den Globes leer ausgegangen ist, und nun nicht mal eine einzige BAFTA-Nominierung hat ergattern können.
Der nach Academy Awards und Golden Globes drittwichtigste Preis in der Filmindustrie
wird wie stets in der Royal Albert Hall in London überreicht werden. Am 18. Februar wird Joanna Lumley durch den Abend führen. Stephen Fry, der die BAFTA Awards zwölf Jahre lang moderierte, hat vergangene Woche seinen Verzicht auf einen weiteren Auftritt erklärt. Andere sollten nun "die BAFTAs zu neuen Höhen und höheren Weihen" führen.
